Has it really been 10 days since I’ve posted anything?! Holy crap, time flies. I’d meant to post my mini reviews I’d been working on, but the week just got away from me. You know how it be.

But guess what! This is my 100th post on A Darker Shade of Rosie! Woot woot! I don’t know if normal people celebrate that sort of thing, but it’s a notable accomplishment for me! I feel like I’m terrible at blogging these days, so the fact that I made it to triple digits encourages me, and I’d like to thank you all who stick it out with me and read my posts. It really does mean the world to me, and I try to respond to all of your comments as soon as I can! Life is busy with my 15-month-old, and I try to make sure every day is his best day… while trying to maintain sanity on my end. ?

Since we last spoke, I was telling you that last weekend, we travelled for our family reunion, which was roughly 4.5 hours away. Isaac was the ~president~ of the reunion this year, which meant he was responsible for purchasing door prizes, raffle prizes, food, and other things needed for the reunion to run smoothly! It was his first time running it (with his parents and my help, of course), but he did such a good job, and a lot of other people commended him as well. He’s going to run it again next year, which is kind of unfortunate for me because even though I got the Friday off, I wasn’t supposed to miss Back To School night at my school. ? I won’t be able to go down the Friday before with him next year and help set up; I’ll have to drive separately, which SUCKS, because the whole family gets together down at Aunt Bev’s house on Friday night and cooks out and just has an awesome time hanging out on the back porch and letting the kids swim in her pool. Back To School is always that Friday before the reunion, and I won’t be able to leave until 8pm. ?

I’ve been trying to be more positive about my 9–6 shift at work, and using the morning hours to my advantage to go to the gym and read, but this past week was really frustrating for me when I found out a fellow 9-to-6-er, who’s only been a part of our school team for a little over 3 months, got an 8–5 shift … which is the shift that I really, really want. And I’ve been at the school for almost 3 years. I want to say something to my manager, but I’m pretty sure it’s not even going to matter. It just really sucks when someone tells you there’s no possibility of anyone getting an 8–5 shift, and then you find out a month later that you’ve been lied to. It’s really lowering my morale, but I’ve promised Isaac I’d stick it out until Rowan graduates from Pre-K. So I just gotta stick it out for… oh, about 4 years. ?

House of Salt and Sorrows
(hardcover, OwlCrate edition)

Rose Petal Graves
(ebook, bought)

Sooooo I had pre-ordered House of Salt and Sorrows, and it came on the 6th… and then my OwlCrate came last weekend, and would you look at that?! Now I have two! ? And I was browsing through Amazon books and came across this beauty, Rose Petal Graves. It’s marketed as The Vampire Diaries, but with faeries. Okay, that’s all I needed. Bonus: the town it takes place in is called Rowan – it was meant to be.

Nothing to see here, carry on…

• A LESSON IN THORNS FINISHED  ★★★ Overall, this book was good, but I don’t think I’ll continue with the series. Look out for my mini review later this week! (Goodreads)
• SORCERY OF THORNS STARTED Read to 60% last week. THIS BOOK. IS WONDERFUL. I’m gobbling it up! Nathaniel is my precious little bean. (Goodreads)
• HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX (AUDIOBOOK) STILL LISTENING  Listened to 88% last week. Almost done, guys! I’m excited to move onto book #6 (which I’ve never read yet!) (Goodreads)

I’ve put Game of ThronesWe Hunt the Flame, and Shadow Frost back on my ‘to-read’ shelf for now. Not sure when I’ll pick them up again, but they’ve been hanging in the void for several months now, so it was time to take them from my ‘currently-reading’ shelf.

I haven’t watched anything, really! Occasionally, I’ve re-watched some Workin’ Moms while Isaac watched up to where I am on that show. I’m thinking of starting  The Handmaid’s Tale today since my co-teacher is telling me to!

  • Finish Harry Potter #5 audiobook.
  • Finish Sorcery of Thorns.
  • Keep getting up early and getting to the gym!

How is everyone? What are you reading or watching or listening to? Did you get any new books this week? Would you celebrate making it to 100 posts? How many posts have you written so far?

I’m linking up my post to The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves!

  1. Well, at least the two copies you own are different from each other! If the book is good it’ll be nice to have a collection lol.
The first and second seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale are amazing I definitely recommend, though the third season was pretty boring in my opinion.
    Have a great week! 🙂

  2. Congratulations on your 100th post!

I really liked Sorcery of Thorns. Rose Petal Graves sounds as if it could be interesting, I look forward to seeing what you think of it.

Wishing you a great reading week

  3. Rowan is so adorable!!! That event sounds amazing with all the family members. I’m glad y’all had fun and that Isaac did a great job! It sucks that BTS won’t let you be there next year :/
And I think you should talk to the manager about what happened, explain things calmly that you were wanting that position and have been at the school longer than the other person, and with your little boy, that shift is better for you and explain why. If there are no positions available at the moment, ask if they can consider you for it as soon as another opens up or something.
I so want a copy of House of Salt and Sorrows! I’ve been dying to get it!! Rose Petal Graves sounds good! I’ll have to check it out! I won a copy of Sorcery of Thorns so I’m just waiting for it to arrive so I can read it!

    • Thank you so much!

Unfortunately, we’ve had this conversation, and more than once. ? I thought I already was the person next in line to receive that shift. I’m trying to make the best of it and utilize my morning by making it my workout time, but it still really stinks.

House of Salt and Sorrows was definitely one of my best reads this year! Def recommend! And Sorcery of Thorns is probably going to make the list, too. (I’m on the last chapter!!)

  4. Awww! Oh my gosh, your little one is so precious. Sounds like an eventful week! Congrats on 100 posts. That truly is an accomplishment and I’m so glad that you’ve reached the triple digits! Also, your blog is wonderful and I’m so glad to have stumbled upon it a while back.

Hope you guys enjoyed your family reunion! That is so unfortunate about next year. Don’t you just hate it when certain events conflict with one another on your schedule? And then you have to bend yourself into all sorts of shape to do both. Ack.

House of Salt and Sorrows sounds sooo intriguing. I definitely need to get my hands on it ASAP. That freaking cover kills me. On another note, I just started A Lesson in Thorns today myself so I’m kind of keen to see how I feel about! I have heard a lot of mixed reviews on it.

    • Thank you~ ? I’m so grateful to you for sticking with me and my blog! Makes me feel so good! ?

It was lots of fun! It’s usually always a good time, but yeah I’m bummed about next year. *sigh*

I definitely recommend you read House of Salt and Sorrows!!! It was a wonderful retelling – and even if you didn’t really know the story of ‘The Twelve Dancing Princesses’, like I didn’t, it’s still an intriguingly beautiful and creepy tale!

Hope you are liking A Lesson in Thorns! ?
