BLOG digest #41 / a new workout routine, and a greater urge to read!
Hi friends! So much has happened since we last talked, and do you realize we’re just a month away from Christmas? And do I have my Christmas shopping done? Of course not.

As is proper around this time of year, I’ve focused my mind onto weight loss again. I always jump on this wagon, and then fall off by February or so… What’s the difference this time? Can I promise myself I’ll stick with it this time to reach my goal weight? Who knows. The only thing is that I’m turning 30 next year… and I don’t want to look like it. I want to be healthy and make healthy choices – not only for me, but for my son. So I’ve renewed my gym membership with Planet Fitness and I’m doing workouts on Beachbody On Demand again. Last Monday, I started the Morning Meltdown 100, and I’m liking these short but challenging workouts. It’s 100 workouts, but they’re only 20-30 minutes long a day, and they’re engaging! Plus, I can make time for a 30-minute workout, and I feel great after.

Right: fall picture. Left: spring picture.

My son got his fall pictures back! He’s done so much growing since his spring pictures back in April. He’s now in the Toddler classroom, and we even turned his carseat around to forward facing since he meets all of the requirements. CRAZY!

We have NOT put our tree up yet. 🎄 I’ve wanted to, but lack the motivation. I also don’t exactly know where I’m going to put it… that, and I’m nervous about how my toddler will react to it. Will he leave it alone? Or will he yank every single ornament off? Anyone’s guess.

I’m also very much looking forward to the Thanksgiving holiday coming up this week. (And we will be putting up the tree sometime during our four-day weekend. Stay tuned to see what Rowan does to it.)

PHYSICAL

  • The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
  • Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw

I wasn’t very active these past two weeks. 😬

  • HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS (Audiobook) read by Jim Dale. Finished. ★★★★★ I finally finished the last book in the series, guys. And I feel so hollow. 😩 (Goodreads)
  • MEDDLING KIDS by Edgar Cantero. Started. Read to 61%. This author basically wrote a Scooby Doo fan-fiction story about when the gang all grew up, except for the fact that all of their names are different. I ain’t even mad about it. Scooby Doo was my JAM as a kid!  (Goodreads)
  • STRANGE THE DREAMER (Audiobook) read by Steve West. Started. Listened to 18%. After I’d listened to all of my Harry Potter audiobooks, I needed something else to listen to on my every-day commute. I’ve had the audiobook for Strange the Dreamer on my Audible shelf for quite some time now, and I thought it was time to re-read it so that I can finally read Muse of Nightmares. (Goodreads)

We started off by watching the newest season of Rick and Morty, and then everything was Disney+ after that. 😅 The very first thing I watched was 101 Dalmatians. I tried to watch it with Rowan because it was my favorite Disney movie around his age, but he wasn’t quite as interested. Then I watched 10 Things I Hate About You, classic. Isaac and I watched some of the series Disney+ has to offer, like Life According to Jeff Goldblum and Marvel’s Hero Project

My mom had never seen Remember the Titans (GASP!) so instead of disowning her, I made her sit through it with me. (She loved it.) And then I watched The Princess DiariesThe Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, and Fantasia!

Did you get Disney+? What have you watched so far? And of course, tell me what you’re currently reading!

I’m linking up my post to The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves!

  1. He is a cutie!
We put our tree on a table surrounded by a wooden playpen when our kids were small (I had three under three at one stage) it worked well because they couldn’t reach the decorations off the ground and couldn’t get close enough to it to pull it off the table either.

Wishing you a great reading week

  2. No tips on child-proofing a tree here. We barely cat-proofed ours, and somehow we survived (my Gran had made some stuffed fabric ornaments, and we put them on the bottom of the tree. Saves our breakable stuff from being batted around like miniature piñata).

Meddling Kids looks really good! I may have to check that one out. I read the blurb and….well, I’m surprised I didn’t hear more about it.

I take it Disney + was a good idea? I’m reluctant to subscribe to yet another streaming service, because if companies feel they can compartmentalize all their content and charge $15/month per service, it’s not long until you’re paying the price of cable again.
So if we get D+, I think something else will have to go. Hm.

    • Haha, we used to have three dogs when I was growing up, and I remember one year, they knocked the tree over THREE times. 🤦🏻‍♀️ “Meddling Kids” is pretty great. I enjoy the way the author writes – a refreshing take on the mystery gang!

Disney+ is peeeerfect for my nostalgic heart. I totally get it, though – I hate how every tv streaming service has a charge now! Luckily, our Netflix is free with our phone service, and Hulu is discounted with my boyfriend’s Spotify, so we’re able to save some $$$ that way. x

  3. When Robin was little, we put unbreakable ornaments at the bottom of the tree… ones that were big enough not to be a choking hazard. I was more worried about the “needles” that fell off the fake tree, to be honest… but they survived. (The child, the tree, and the ornaments.)

We haven’t signed up for Disney+ yet. We may, eventually, but honestly, I can only watch about an hour of TV or one movie per day, and not every day. Right now we’re watching Warehouse 13, which Robin gave us for Christmas last year but we’re only now getting to. And we have Netflix and CBS All Access (because Star Trek.) Still, I admit the Disney lineup is impressive, and if I watched more TV, I’d be much more tempted.

    • That’s a smart idea! I think last year I just didn’t put any ornaments on the bottom, because he was still just crawling and couldn’t reach very high (but it looked silly). Disney+ has just been so nice for me to go back through all the movies/shows I loved as a kid/young adult, and also, The Mandalorian has been a pleasant surprise! x

  4. Good luck with your getting healthy journey. You can totally do it! 😉
We’ve been having Disney + for a while now (I think it went life in September here) and I still have so much I want to see. If only there was more time in a day.
Have a great week and happy reading!

I wish I had Disney+ but unfortunately, it isn’t available in the UK 😭 Hopefully it’ll be available internationally someday because I feel like I’m missing out on a lot.

That spine for Winterwood is gorgeous! And so is that Heath Ledger gif 😍
