blog digest #6 / my son saw santa, and we did all sorts of christmassy things this week
Hi, friends! It’s been a pretty calm week ’round the blog as I shuffle around and try to prepare for Christmas! I got a lot of the presents I needed to get, but I still have some more shopping to do.

The weather has been pretty warm for December, and it’s got me wishing for snow. But the lights are looking so pretty around my town, and my little family and I even went to go see the Christmas lights in the park this evening.

It’s hard to fathom that I have one more full week of work before our small Christmas break. I’m hoping that it goes fast, because I’m ready for some rest and relaxation~ It was a busy week, and an even busier weekend — this is the first time I’ve gotten to sit and type up anything because we’ve just been running a lot Friday, yesterday and today. (And that’s why this is getting posted super late on a Sunday!)

This upcoming week: expect to see a bookish post (another Top Ten Tuesday), a personal post (another Dear Rowan feature), and a blogger post (about how I’ve deleted my posts in the past and that I regret it).

My December OwlCrate came in the mail yesterday, and this beauty was enclosed! Look at that gorgeous COVER! It’s the first time I’m seeing this book, but it sounds mystical and complicated — can’t wait to read it!

  • HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (AUDIOBOOK) read by Jim Dale • Still listening. I’m over halfway, and loving this story! The third installment of the Harry Potter series has always been my favorite! (Goodreads)
  • GIRLS OF PAPER AND FIRE by Natasha Ngan • Still reading. This novel is proving to be a wonderful read! I’ve been trying to get in a couple of chapters before bed each night, and even tried to squeeze in some reading on my lunch breaks. At the moment, I’m about 25% through it, and am eager to devour more! (Goodreads)

This week has been filled with nothing but CHRISTMAS! I watched Elf with one of my best friends last weekend because she’d never seen it! Crazy, right? I’ve also watched a couple of Hallmark movies: Last Vermont Christmas, and Christmas Inheritance on Netflix.

The week was pretty bland… it just consisted of work and housework and sleep. (And late night readings of Girls of Paper and Fire, which is exactly what I’m going to do as soon as this post goes live!) But this past weekend was fun and full of little adventures! Friday night after work, I went to go pick up my son and my mom and we went to my aunt and uncle’s for Christmas cookie decorating, which was a blast! On Saturday, we had a birthday party for one of Rowan’s cousins who turned 4! We then traveled to Bath & Body Works, where there were some wicked sales going on!

Christmas in the Park family portrait!

Then today, I woke up early to a text from my mom, saying she locked her keys in her car and she needed me to come rescue her! Naturally, I did, because she’s saved my stupid butt plenty of times LOL. Then my fam and I got ready to go to Isaac’s works Christmas party, which was at 11 AM. A lot of Isaac’s family members are in his trade of plumbing & pipefitting, so practically his whole family came. The food was delicious, and Rowan saw Santa again (he did SO GOOD). We headed out around 1, at which point I felt exhausted (since I didn’t go to sleep until after 2 AM and woke up earlier than expected) and Isaac’s mom offered to keep Rowan (she didn’t want him to leave) and she would bring him back around 4. I tried to take a nap, but failed, so I went to the gym and grocery shopping. When I got back around 6, we went to go see the Christmas in the Park in our town. Every year they decorate the trees in our town park, and it’s so pretty! Rowan kiiiiind of seemed unimpressed, but it might’ve had something to do with the mittens on his hands and him being a little peeved that he couldn’t use his fingers at all… 🤣 We met some of Isaac’s family members down there and hung out in the heated tent for a bit, and then tried to get a family picture in front of one of the lit trees. Rowan wouldn’t look at the camera because he was distracted by the lights, but we caught a couple of cute moments. 🥰

This week, I’m hoping that it’s nice and calm at work! I hope to get lots of reading done with Girls of Paper and Fire, and this Friday starts the Short-A-Thon readathon that I joined earlier this month. I’m making a plan to visit the gym three mornings this week, as well: MWF. I’m starting my New Years’ resolution a bit early, but I’m overdue for getting this baby weight off (and some)! I bought so many fresh vegetables today, so I’m really going to make a change this time. Cheer me on, guys!

How was your week? Do you watch Hallmark Christmas movies? Do you have all of your shopping done yet? Drop and line and tell me what you’re reading! 👇🏻

I’m linking up my post to Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post!

It’s a process. We are just joining the YMCA here and it’s a nice one. My daughter needs some yoga and water exercise classes for her current physical therapy. This week is a little busy but next week is nearly dead. We aren’t going anywhere or doing much. You sound like you have lots of fun and family activities.

I like your reads. Harry Potter is the first thing I bought on audio. I LOVE them on audio. I started with the library and then began buying them. My daughter has the books. Have a great week! Anne – Books of My Heart

    • The Harry Potter audiobooks are just so amazing. I never thought I could get into audiobooks because of my wandering mind, but I’m just so enthralled every time I listen to them on the commute to and from work. I hope you had a great Christmas! I ate too much and now I DEFINITELY need to get to the gym! XD
