irl / another love letter to my small human, who just experienced his first christmas!
One of the things I wanted to incorporate into my blog was my new life as a mother. Rowan just experienced his first Christmas, and even though he wasn’t quite sure what to do with the wrapping paper, I think he still had fun and enjoyed getting new toys. (As well as a lot of attention from our family!)

When I first started this new blog, I liked the idea of a letter feature where I could mix my passion for writing with my love for my baby in a unique way. (And maybe one day when he’s old enough, he can look back and read it!) I’m constantly trying to find new ways to preserve memories so that I can share them again in the future, or just look back and reflect on some distant day many years from now.

Now here, I’ve written a letter to him, reflecting on my four day weekend and the joy I found watching him at Christmas.

You are so loved, Rowan, and it seems that everywhere we go, I am told just how loved you are, how well-behaved you are, and how adorable you are. You make being a mom so easy.

This time last year, your dad felt you kick for the very first time. And in between kicks, I had the most wonderful daydreams of bringing you to this year’s Christmas get-togethers, and watching you attempt to unwrap presents that your family members bestowed upon you.

Christmas definitely came quick this year, but I loved shopping for you, and watching you “open your presents” – okay, in reality, you got bored quickly and tried to wrestle away from your dad and I, and play with a toy that was already opened, or just chew on something that was nearby. But after it was all said and done, you enjoyed all of your new toys, and I watched as you went from one thing to another in the following days. You just were not quite sure what to play with because you had so many options!

Our Christmas Eve box!

We started a new tradition this year: the Christmas Eve box. We opened it as a family. First, the pajamas: we got you a new pair of Harry Potter jammies that we changed you into. Then, the Christmas book: we read The Night Before Christmas book to you as you listened (but also tried to swat at every single page). And the movie: Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer! It was late, but there were a few toys in there too that you played with the next day. But I got a bottle ready, and we cuddled in bed while watching the stop-motion classic…that you only watched maybe 15 minutes of! But that’s okay. It’s a tradition I want us to do every year, and I hope you’ll be just as excited about it as I am as you get older!

It was an exciting time for your father and I to see you at Christmas, and we look forward to many more fun Christmases with you, my love!

xoxo, Mom
