Merry Christmas, my darlings! Can you believe today is Christmas already? Because I can’t! It seems that every year, it comes quicker and quicker.
I’m so very excited that Christmas is here this year, though, because it is my son’s first Christmas! Even though he doesn’t quite grasp the idea of opening presents yet, it’s still fun to see his reaction to his new toys. And what warms my heart even more is being together with family. ?
So since it is Christmas, a Christmas Characters tag seems like a fabulous idea! I was tagged by Amber at The Literary Phoenix, so thank you Amber! You rock! ?
A gift you received or want this year
I got a couple of gifts early this year. My boyfriend got me (well, us, because he likes to play it, too) a Nintendo Switch with the Let’s Go Pikachu game! I love it so much! I also bought the Super Mario Odyssey to play as well. And then his parents got us an Instant Pot — the surprise got ruined because Amazon delivered it on a Sunday AND in a box that told me what it was. ?
A favorite holiday treat to have every year
Ah, yes, Christmas goodies. Even though we make it for Thanksgiving as well, I looooove me some sweet potato soufflé. I also can’t resist a good old fashioned peppermint stick. ?
Ghost of Christmas Past
A holiday memory from your past
One I always like to remember and think upon is one year when my mom took me to the zoo to see the Christmas lights. It was reeeeally cold and snowing (which made the whole event that much more magical), but we bundle up real well and went to Santa’s workshop where we iced (and ate!) cookies and drank hot cocoa and nestled up near the big cans outside with warm fires in them. It was so much fun, and I can’t wait to do it with my son when he gets older!
Buddy the Elf
A holiday song you like to sing
Honestly, any Christmas song will do. I love Christmas music. Some of my favorites this year, however, are “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande, “12 Days of Christmas” by Relient K, anything by Kenny G, and “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” by Lindsey Stirling & Sabrina Carpenter.
An unpopular toy you really wanted one year
Uhhhh. I’m totally blanking on this one. I feel like “books” would be an appropriate answer. Ever since I could remember, I’ve asked for books (of gift cards to buy books) for Christmas. It’s one thing that I’ve always been eager to receive!
A moment when your heart grew three sizes
This year was pretty great as I watched my son “open” gifts (he needed lots of help!) and be excited to play with them! I am looking forward to next Christmas when he understands what it going on a bit more.
A tradition you like to do every winter
Like I mentioned earlier, I LOVE going to the zoo and seeing the zoo lights! It’s been a while since we’ve done this tradition, but I’m starting this year and we’re going to do it EVERY. YEAR. with our son!
Cindy Lou Who
A favorite holiday tradition
I guess we don’t really have that many, apart from spending Christmas days at my aunt and uncle’s house, and we do a gift exchange. And then we laze about and enjoy each other’s company! It’s pretty wonderful in its simplicity! This year, I did start a new tradition with my son, though! It’s called the “Christmas Eve box” and he gets to open it on Christmas Eve, obvs. Inside of it, I stuffed some toys that he got to play with, a Christmas book that we read together, a pair of new jammies that he got to wear (Harry Potter ones!) and a Christmas movie that we watched until we fell asleep (it was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer this year). I’m looking forward to continuing this tradition!
Frosty the Snowman
A memory you have (or would like to have) involving snow
One year, when I was probably in middle school, my mom and I went into the backyard at dusk and started building a snow fort! It was very impressive, and it’s a wonderful memory I have with my mom.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
A holiday activity you like to do
I really enjoy getting together with my family and decorating Christmas cookies! We get real crazy and make silly ones, but then we get a little competitive edge and try REAL hard to make the best-looking cookie!
A favorite holiday saying or quote
While Buddy the Elf’s quote, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” is a great contender, my favorite is still a quote from the Grinch: “It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags. Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas means a little bit more.”
This is the part where I would tag some other bloggers to participate, but since it’s CHRISTMAS DAY and the time has kind of run out to do so, I’m not tagging anyone. But if you would like to do it, then TAG YOU’RE IT! I guess there’s not really a rule that says you have to do it before Christmas. ????
Currently: I stayed up reeeal late to finish reading Puddle Jumping by Amber L. Johnson — SO GOOD, guys! This morning, my son opened all of his gifts, and now we’re getting ready to go to his grandma’s and have a late breakfast.
