I went off and had another small hibernation. I’m sorry. May was a somewhat busy month, and I fear it will only get busier with summer practically knocking at our door. You think it would slow down? Oh, no. No no no.

I’ve been super slacky on my weekly recap posts, but today is a nice, refreshing break from the hectic speed of the last couple of weeks. Today I am sitting in a Starbucks, listening to some calming music, and blogging my heart away! My boyfriend is having surgery today (it’s nothing major, he’ll be fine) and our son is at school, so I have a chance to write some posts! Whoop!

I wanted to participate in another Top Ten Tuesday, since these are fun to write, right? It’s brought to you by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week, we choose our best of the best in a genre of our choosing. Obvs, I’m going to choose FANTASY, because that is my go-to genre.

My Top Fantasy Books

In descending order of most recently read.

House of Salt and Sorrows was an awesome book that I read this year. It’s not out yet (August!!!) but I’ve pre-ordered a copy, and so should you! It’s a retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses, and it’s fantastic with an unreliable narrator – which I looooove!

A Curse So Dark and Lonely is also a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but with a very modern twist. Our MC is sucked out of modern-day Washington D.C. and into the world of Emberfall. I was hesitant as first, despite my excitement for it, but I was very impressed of where the author took this story!

Girls of Paper and Fire really blew me away with its feminism themes and the way the author ties in racism in the world of Ikhara and its different castes. I’m geeked about the sequel coming out this November!

Strange the Dreamer was a book I read in 2017, and absolutely loved! But I had no reservations since I read Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone series before this. I still haven’t read Muse of Nightmares, but I hope to remedy that by the end of the year.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is one of those series I was really crazy about with each release of a new book in the series. I’ve read the first two books twice, and have even listened to them on audiobook because they are just that good. A Court of Mist and Fury will always be the best, in my opinion, though.

The Wrath and the Dawn is one that I’ve been wanting to re-read for a while now, mostly because I haven’t gotten to the second installment yet. I really loved this 1001 Nights retelling and really want to do a re-read of this before 2020!

Shadow and Bone – if you don’t know that Leigh Bardugo is a goddess of the written word by now, then where have you been hiding?! Her Grisha trilogy was fantastic, and I literally have no words. I still need to read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom because I fear I am missing out terribly!

Throne of Glass seems to be a series that either one loves, or definitely does not love. I, however, love it immensely. I’ve been so invested in Maas’s characters for quite some time now, despite having taken a break since Empire of Storms. (Yeah, I know, SHAME.) But I’ve taken a break to try to read some new books, and definitely want to re-enter this world as soon as possible.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone was probably m first step into fantasy when I started blogging back in December of 2013. I fell in love with Laini’s lyrical writing and world-building, and I’ve seen her TWICE and have gotten autographs TWICE from her! She’s beautiful and her hair makes me smile.

Harry Potter, guys, you knew this was coming! What fantasy list is complete without this series? (Hint: it’s not.) I may be a bit hypocritical since I haven’t read past the fifth book – ouch don’t hit me I’m fixing it, I swear! I’ve been listening to the audiobooks and I’m about to star the fifth one soon! Most of us have grown up with this series, and it’s shaped us as adults, so I will always owe a debt to this series for building some of my character!

What genre would you pick for a top ten? And what would you have on it? If you have to pick your top five fantasy novels, what would they be? Have you read any of the books on my list?

I’m linking up my post to Top Ten Tuesday at That Artsy Reader Girl!

Feeling: ?
Reading:
We Hunt the Flame – Hafsah Faizal ?
Listening to: ? Rewrite the Stars – The Piano Guys ?
Drinking: S’mores frappuccino
Currently: Isaac should be halfway through his surgery by now, I imagine. I’m waiting for a call to go retrieve him. Then we might be going to see his grandma, who is in the hospital and not doing too well. ? Hope the rest of you are having a great Tuesday!

Welcome back to TTT! Harry Potter is honestly the first series I think of when I think of fantasy. 🙂

    My TTT.

  2. Welp, your picks are pretty much all on my TBR, and I’ve read none of them, and now I’m just sitting here wondering what I’m even doing with my life. xD Clearly, I got my priorities crossed somewhere. No, wait! I read Harry Potter. Because of course I did. :3 Surely that counts for something. I need to read the Grishaverse books soonish, because I want to be able to watch the series. Great choices!

    Here’s my TTT post.

  3. I haven’t read any of the books listed in your TTT post this week, but many of them look really good!
