bookish / covers are basically what makes you pick up a book in the first place, and i don't mind a good, creepy cover!
Once again, Happy Halloweek! All Hallows’ Eve is almost upon us, and I’m getting in the spooky spirit.

I really enjoy a good thriller/horror-esque novel, and I’m a junkie for good covers. That’s why I wanted to show you some creepy covers in the young adult genre that I’ve read/want to read.

Creepy Covers in YA

I always thought the Mara Dyer covers had a strong creepiness factor to them. (That’s why I was attracted to them!) I’ve really wanted to re-read this lately.

Although I didn’t particularly enjoy this book, you have to admit the cover is sinister-looking.

I read this one back in 2015, and I remember liking it pretty well. And how terrifying is that face on the cover? I’d hate to wake up to that hovering over my face.

I am truly fascinated by abandoned photography, and the creep-factor is on high when I see pictures of that nature. Inferno Park is about an abandoned amusement park, and was just as creepy on the inside as it looks on the outside!

This book is filed under historical fiction and thriller, but there’s something subtly eerie about the cover. I’ve had this on my to-read shelf for a few years now, but haven’t gotten to it yet!

The calm, serene face on this girl is very disturbing because it’s in ribbons…with plants growing out of it? Um, creepy. I’ve heard mixed reviews, but I want to find out for myself what this book is all about.

I’ve heard such good things about this book, and I can’t wait to read it. The fact that it’s got an ominous cover to go with the raving reviews? Nice!

No, I still haven’t read this one. And it was published eight years ago…

This cover is minimalistic and light, yet makes you feel a little uneasy at the same time. Also… the description disturbs me a little bit too. Maybe one day I will read this!

This one hold some similarity to The Devouring Gray, I think, with the twisty, grasping branches, but this one looks a bit darker and scary. I can’t wait to read this! It came out in May, but I haven’t gotten to read it yet. (Story of my life!)

What creepy covers attract your eye? Have you read any of these? If you have, does the story do the cover justice?

I’m linking up my post to Top Ten Tuesday!

  1. Great list! Wilder Girls is one I still need to read, too – that cover is gorgeous! – and A Madness So Discreet is one of those books that’s been on my radar for years. I need to try some of Mindy McGinnis’s work!

  2. Lydia says:

Yes, these are pretty creepy covers!

    My TTT.

  3. I’ve always loved that Mara Dyer book cover, even if it is kind of creepy!

  4. Bummer about “Asylum” not being a great read because I totally agree, that cover is super spooky!

    • After many years of growing up and watching horror movies and playing some horror video games, I feel like I’m just desensitized, or it’s just hard to scare me anymore, especially when it comes to books. So maybe it’s still worth picking up? It just didn’t do it for me personally. x

  5. Louise says:

I love the cover for Anna Dressed in Blood! The edition that I have gives her a red dress and it looks even creepier than the white.

  6. Shutter is very creepy looking. What even IS that thing?

  7. Rachel says:

I have no desire to read Wilder Girls, but I am completely on board with the creep factor!
